The Early Years Foundation Stage
In September 2008 all Early Years settings were required to follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage - setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five years old.
The EYFS is set out in 4 particular themes those being:
1. A Unique Child 2. Positive Relationships
3.Enabling Environments 4. Learning and Development
Within these themes are certain commitments that as a group we follow, within everything we do day to day and within our long term, medium term and short term goals we work to and work towards.
One very small part of the grid of themes and commitments are - The Areas of Learning and Development. This consists of 6 different sections which are then broken down into achieveable parts for your child to progress at their own pace.
These sections are:
1.Personal,Social and Emotional Development.
2.Communication,Language and Literacy Development.
3.Problem Solving,Reasoning and Numeracy Development.
4.Physical Development.
5.Creative Development.
6.Knowledge & Understanding of the World.
All children develop at their own pace and maybe be more skilled in some areas than others,so please do not worry if your child has not achieved to what the guidlines suggest thay should at certain milestones as ALL children are different as are ALL adults.
